Sacramento, CA – It was revered jazz bassist Charlie Haden who once said, “When the bass stops, the bottom kind of drops out of everything.” Judging by the latest endeavor of GospelChops.com creator Gerald Forrest, he couldn’t agree with Haden more. Forrest, who has received international acclaim for his expanding performance/instruction “Sessionz” series, is back in the studio recording the rhythm again. This time around, it’s all about the bodacious bass! The producer/director has just completed filming “Bass Sessionz Vol. 2,” and the footage is indeed thumpin’!
Forrest selected four young brilliant bassists and put them on a sound stage in Burbank, CA for the filming of “Bass Sessionz Vol. 2″ (BSV2). “Bass Sessionz Vol. 2″ features the talents of Mark Peric from Brisbane, Australia (Planetshakers), Brandon Brown from Memphis, TN (Jessica Simpson, American Idol, The Jacksons Tour), Anthony Crawford from Memphis, TN (Allan Holdsworth, Anthony Crawford Band), and recent Berklee College of Music graduate, Joshua Young from Queens, NY.
BSV2 will showcase mind-blowing bass solos and duets, incredible improvisational jam sessions, concert footage, photo slide shows and a dazzling bass trio salute to Michael Jackson. In addition, the bass players are individually highlighted teaching one of their favorite bass chops during an instructional lesson.
“It makes my heart sing to know that musicians around the globe have really embraced the ‘Sessionz’ series,” reveals Forrest. “They are like interactive jams that go viral and keep gaining momentum. Our following has evolved into a fellowship of like-minded music lovers who appreciate what is being shared, from the musicianship, to the insider tips to the unbounded creativity.”
Forrest originally came up with the concept for the “Sessionz” series after developing the website Gospelchops.com as a vehicle to pay tribute to the numerous musical contributions of generations of gospel musicians. His original vision was to educate the world about this inspirational art form and its history. The site has offered free gospel music education, lessons and content since 2005 and has sold thousands of music DVD’s to every continent on the globe. In addition, the GospelChops.com YouTube channel has over 7 million views with nearly 18,000 subscribers.
The “Sessionz” collection includes “Shed Sessionz Vol. 1, 2, and 3″ featuring top drummers and “Bass Sessionz Vol. 1.” “Bass Sessionz Vol. 1″ actually broke new barriers in the music industry by bringing together the legends of gospel and jazz, garnering appearances by Grammy Award-winning jazz drummer, Peter Erskine along with Grammy nominated jazz pianist, John Beasley and gospel bass legend, Andrew Gouche.
Proceeds from the various video series benefit the GospelChops Foundation, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of at-risk children in under served communities through music education. The Young Musicians Program, under its umbrella, is an after-school music-learning program in California, which has gained sponsorship from Marines Toys for Tots and the Google Corporation.
This second edition in the Bass Sessionz series will be available at the end of April as a digital download for iPhone, iPad, Apple and PC computers, Android phones and tablets, as well as high definition Blu-ray discs. Pre-orders will be available April 1, 2013. To check out any of the “Sessionz” series go to http://www.GospelChops.com .

San Diego – For two years now, Imperial Hustle Entertainment CEO, Defiance, has remained true to his moniker. His online and print publication, The Resource Magazine, has consistently gone to the edge of hip hop, tackling socially and politically relevant issues right along side topical hip hop fare, like music, celebrity interviews and independent artist profiles. Hailing out of San Diego while repping Los Angeles’ Inland Empire area, The Resource Magazine pushes the envelope with a controversial range of topics.
In a continuing effort to move beyond established parameters, the magazine publisher is announcing the launch of yet another trailblazing magazine. HHS Magazine makes its debut on March 10, 2013. With Trinidadian beauty Cavel voluptuously gracing the cover, it might seem the new rag is typical eye candy content. But Defiance, loyal to his brand, will present knowledge about the inner workings of the model industry based on key fundamentals for aspiring models.
With The Resource Magazine, Defiance has tackled topics ranging from health issues associated with laboratory vaccinations in children and the prison industrial system’s multi-billion dollar organization to the contamination of food by genetic modification. Alongside these topics are interviews with Nappy Roots, Freeway Rick Ross, 40 Glocc of Gunit, Skullgang (of Dipset), Horseshoe Gang (from Crooked I), Kalenna of Diddy Dirty Money (of Bad Boy), Aone from Maybach Music Group, DJ King Assassin, Dj Far, Kokane, and The Outlawz.
A radio host, online author and musician, Defiance originally created The Resource Magazine based on his point of view as an emcee. Offering the raw alternative news that he had been gamed with his whole life, The Resource provides urban intelligence for the independent culture. OG Cuicide, a suicide awareness advocate from Compton, graces the current seventh volume and anniversary issue of The Resource Magazine. He is also the founder and designer of One West clothing and owner of the video company CG Films.
“Ultimately, our vision is for HHS to extend our outreach even further and explore beauty from a wider perspective and more informative dimensions. With the enchanting Cavel gracing our premier cover, we are giving a nod to women of color, a trend that hip hop seems to be moving away from,” offers Defiance. Cavel, a native of Trinidad, is one of urban entertainment’s hottest models.
Blazing the path as an urban handbook of sorts, The Resource Magazine continues to enlighten with information to arm oneself mentally, while getting educated globally. Get a hold of both the new issues now at www.imperialhustle.com.

Washington, DC – As President Barack Obama reiterated the need to fight climate change during his State of the Union Address Tuesday night, “Green Ambassadors” were already doing their part to tackle climate change by promoting sustainable lifestyles to students and staff at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
Selected and trained by UNCF Special Programs (UNCFSP) Building Green Initiative and Toyota Green Initiative, some 52 students on 27 HBCU campuses serve as “Green Ambassadors.” Currently the ambassadors are competing in the 13th annual RecycleMania, a competition to see which college campus can reduce, reuse and recycle the most on-campus waste. The eight-week contest raises awareness about waste reduction programs on over 500 college campuses. Last fall Green Ambassadors participated in the Toyota Campus Prius Tour, a college tour featuring Toyota hybrid vehicle test drives, a simulated recycling center and eco-friendly games and prizes.
“Sustainability is not a new concept for black colleges; efficiency, conservation and innovation have been central to institutional survival,” said Felicia M. Davis, director UNCFSP Building Green Initiative. “Recycling is an important first step on the road to sustainability. RecycleMania is a great way to encourage students and staff to reduce, reuse and recycle while providing exposure to green economy principles and sustainable lifestyles. The cool thing is that there are no losers in this competition, every little bit helps and this is a great way to inspire positive change.”
The UNCFSP Building Green Initiative (buildinggreennetwork.org) has created a diverse network committed to increasing green building, energy efficiency, student engagement, curriculum development, research and campus-wide sustainability for Black, Hispanic-Serving, Tribal and Asian Pacific Islander institutions. The UNCF Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) Green Report surveyed sustainability activity at 52 MSIs. A special HBCU Sustainability Report will be released during a briefing on Earth Day, April 22, 2013.
RecycleMania (www.recyclemania.org) will run through March 30, 2013, with the involvement of more than 4.4 million students and nearly 1 million faculty and staff participating throughout the US and Canada. Schools compete in 11 categories to see which campus can recycle the most paper, cardboard, cans and bottles, and food waste on a per capita basis; which can produce the least amount of waste; and which recycles the largest percentage of their overall waste stream.
ABOUT THE UNCFSP BUILDING GREEN INITIATIVE
Under the leadership of UNCF Special Programs Corporation, the Building Green Initiative provides training, resources and other technical support to help campuses limit emissions and use resources more efficiently. Partners include: Environmental Defense Fund, Second Nature, US Green Building Council, National Wildlife Federation’s Campus Ecology (NWF), Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the Billion Dollar Green Fund and others work with UNCF Special Programs to accelerate the integration of sustainable practices on MSI campuses.
RecycleMania was launched in 2001 as a friendly challenge between Ohio University and Miami University to increase recycling on their campuses. RecycleMania, now an independent program of RecycleMania, Inc., is made possible with sponsorship support from the Alcoa Foundation, American Forest & Paper Association, The Coca-Cola Company and SCA. Program management is provided by Keep America Beautiful with additional program support from the U.S. EPA’s WasteWise program and the College and University Recycling Coalition (CURC). RecycleMania is proud to partner with UNCF Special Programs, the Campus Conservation Nationals, NWF, and AASHE.

The Doesha Cup is an unprecedented celebration of the legalization of medical marijuana. As Los Angeles’ premiere medical marijuana tasting competition, it has grown in attendance to over 5000 patients and caregivers. Dr. Ingleweed, the man behind it all, has owned and operated All American Healing located at 126 1/2 S. Market Street in Inglewood, CA since 2005.
A pioneer organic green grower and one of the original founders of the “Food for the Hood” program at Crenshaw High School, Dr. Ingleweed began growing cannabis in 1994 while attending college at the University of California, Berkeley. His famed Doesha Cup was one of the first gatherings to pave the way for celebratory events in the medical marijuana community at the onset of the legalization movement in Los Angeles. With the legal progress made over the past several years, Dr. Ingleweed’s Doesha Cup has become a longtime cult favorite.
“The mainstreaming of medical marijuana is finally here,” asserts Dr. Ingleweed. “We are no longer perceived as drug users and abusers. Though we still have an uphill battle, more and more states are legalizing it. Our talent line up this year is as diverse as the world of smokers out there. The Doesha Cup 2013 is gonna take it higher and higher!”
The Doesha Cup’s mission is to cultivate and strengthen the medical marijuana movement by exposing patients to new products while cultivating businesses and budding enterprises who specialize in medical marijuana ethics, such as dispensaries and vendors. The actual competition features 12 to 15 different strains tested by 200 judges competing for the prime position as the reigning “Doesha Cup Champion.” Prizes and incentives range upwards to $1500 in cash, concessions and ultimate bragging rights.
